Before your first online session
A little setup goes a long way toward making a video session feel as focused as an office visit.
- Find a private spot where you can talk freely. Some clients use a parked car or a closed office.
- Use a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and a steady internet connection.
- Wear headphones if others are nearby.
- Make sure you're physically in Illinois or Texas at the time of your appointment.
- Keep your insurance card handy for your first visit.
- Log on a few minutes early to check your audio and video.
Virtual or in-person therapy?
Both are effective. The right choice usually comes down to your schedule, privacy at home, and what helps you open up.

Virtual therapy questions
What is virtual therapy?
Virtual therapy, also called online therapy or telehealth counseling, is talk therapy with a licensed therapist over secure video instead of in an office. At Ashé, virtual sessions follow the same clinical approach and session length as in-person care.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
For many concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma, research has found that therapy by video can be about as effective as in-person sessions. What matters most is the relationship with your therapist and the consistency of your care.
Who can do virtual therapy with Ashé?
Adults, teens 12 and up, and couples who are physically located in Illinois or Texas during their sessions. Therapists can only provide care where they are licensed, so your location at the time of the appointment is what counts.
Does insurance cover virtual therapy?
Most insurance plans that cover therapy also cover telehealth sessions. Ashé accepts most major insurance plans and several Illinois Medicaid plans, and we verify your benefits before your first appointment. Self-pay is also available.
What do I need for an online therapy session?
A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera, a reliable internet connection, and a private place to talk. You'll receive a secure link to join your session.
Can I switch between virtual and in-person sessions?
Often, yes. Many clients mix both depending on their week. Whether in-person sessions are possible depends on your therapist's office schedule in River North or Logan Square.
Do you offer evening virtual appointments?
Yes. Availability varies by therapist, but Ashé offers evening options for virtual therapy.
Can teens and couples do therapy online?
Yes. Ashé offers virtual teen therapy for ages 12 and up and virtual couples therapy. For couples sessions, both partners need to be located in Illinois or Texas.
