Stress &
Emotional Suppression

Many men learn early that strength means silence — that the move is to absorb the pressure, fix the problem, and never let anyone see the weight of it. For a while, it works.

But suppressed stress does not disappear. It surfaces as anger, distance, exhaustion, and the sense that you are running on empty while everyone leans on you. At Ashe Counseling & Coaching, therapy for men is not about being broken down — it is about finally being understood, by clinicians who work with how men are actually socialized to cope.

What Men’s Therapy Helps With

The things men rarely say out loud.

Across career, relationships, fatherhood, and identity, our Chicago therapists hold space for the full weight of what you carry.

01

Anxiety in Men

The racing mind, the tight chest, the constant scan for what could go wrong — often hidden behind a calm exterior. We help you name it and quiet it.

02

Depression in Men

Depression in men does not always look like sadness. Sometimes it is numbness, irritability, or withdrawal. We help you recognize it and move through it.

03

Relationship Communication

When closeness feels like a language you were never taught, therapy gives you the vocabulary to be present, heard, and connected again.

04

Fatherhood Stress

Raising children while managing your own unmet needs is heavy work. We help you parent from intention rather than reaction.

05

Anger & Emotional Regulation

Anger is often the only feeling that was ever safe to show. We help you find what lives underneath it — and respond instead of erupt.

06

Work & Identity

When your worth is fused to your output, burnout and emptiness follow. We help you rebuild a self that is not only your job title.

07

Grief in Men

Loss that was never given space to be felt does not disappear — it waits. We create room for the grief you have carried quietly.

08

Therapy for Black Men

Therapy for Black men that understands hypervigilance, code-switching, and strength as survival — with clinicians who get it without explanation.

09

Asking for Help Without Shame

Reaching out is not weakness — it is the most decisive thing you can do. We make the first step feel less like surrender and more like strategy.

"The strongest thing a man can do is stop pretending he is not tired."

Before you begin.

What is therapy for men, and how is it different?

Therapy for men is counseling tailored to how men are often socialized to handle emotion — absorbing stress, leading with anger or numbness, and avoiding asking for help. At Ashe, sessions are practical and direct, and our clinicians work with that conditioning rather than against it.

I have never done therapy. Will it feel awkward?

It is normal to feel uncertain at first. Our clinicians keep early sessions conversational and pressure-free. You do not need the right words or a clear problem — you just have to show up, and we handle the rest together.

I am not depressed, I am just stressed and tired. Is therapy still for me?

Yes. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit. Chronic stress, burnout, and emotional suppression are exactly the things we help men address before they turn into something bigger.

Can I be matched with a Black male therapist?

Yes. We understand that being understood without translation matters, and we will do our best to match you with a clinician whose background and approach fit what you are looking for.

Do you offer virtual therapy for men in Illinois?

We do. Ashe offers secure virtual therapy across Illinois, plus in-person sessions at our River North (40 E Huron St, Unit 4B) and Logan Square (2653 N Kedzie Ave) offices in Chicago.

How do I get started?

Book your first appointment online through our scheduling portal, or send us a message and our intake team will help match you with the right clinician for what you are working through.

You do not have to figure this out alone.

Booking your first session is the only step you need to take right now. We will take it from there, together.
