I am a social worker and therapist at Ashe Counseling & Coaching LLC. Clients and others would describe me as a thoughtful, passionate, and genuine person. I seek to partner with my clients on their journey of healing, hope and happiness.
My therapeutic approach combines several evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, psychodynamic techniques, Motivational Interviewing and Narrative Therapy. While clinical technique and knowledge are important, the cornerstone of my treatment is the therapeutic bond with the client. The foundation for successful therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client---there must be trust, respect and understanding to facilitate the healing process. Therapy is a unique combination of scientific approach and artful engagement. I have often heard clients complain about poor therapeutic experiences in the past
because they could not connect with their therapist. This connection, this art of relationship building, is not something I learned in graduate school but through being transparent, humble and authentic in my interaction with clients. I am client-centered, recognizing that you are the expert on your own life. I am here to mirror and validate those experiences that have shaped your life and guide you toward wellness by helping you to relinquish negative thoughts and attitudes that get us stuck in a pattern of maladaptive behavior. I have worked with a diverse group of people including those coping with anxiety, depression, stress disorders, mood disorders, addiction and trauma. Clients often
find it difficult todiscuss those issues and traumas that are rooted in racial discrimination and oppression. I am a champion for social justice and support the upliftment of African Americans and all those suffering under the weight of oppression.
I am a proud graduate of Howard University “H.U. you know!” in Washington, D.C. where I obtained myBachelor of Science degree in psychology. After receiving my undergraduate degree I attended California State University – Northridge in Los Angeles, CA where I graduated with honors and received my Master’s of Social Work. My work experience is diverse and has taken me all across the country from Los Angeles, to Maryland to Chicago. I have experience supporting older adults with Alzheimer’s disease and
dementia and their families; adults suffering with mental illness and addiction and emancipated foster youth. I have also provided therapy to children and their families in both the school setting and their homes. I worked with the second largest foster care system in the country in Los Angeles County, responding to allegations of abuse and neglect. I’ve also worked with at-risk youth involved in the juvenile justice system, helping their families to overcome the barriers that kept youth stuck in the
I am a native of New York City and grew up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. I’ve lived in Los Angeles and now reside in Chicago where I started my family, raising two beautiful toddlers, ages 1 and 3. I left the workforce for 3 years and was a stay-at-home mother. I see this experience as an asset, as having children has grounded me and challenged me in ways I never imagined. On any given day you can find me hanging out with my family, visiting a local museum or seeking another amazing destination to visit. So far Ghana has been my favorite country to explore.
