Greetings, my name is Nakia. I am a graduate student at National Louis University,
working towards a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My undergraduate
degree is in Applied Behavioral Sciences. Since high school, I’ve naturally gravitated to
being a help agent for people in their life’s journey. I find it gratifying to assist people in
filtering who they are, what they have been through, and where they are going.

Those who know me would describe me as considerate, diplomatic, and motivating. To
me, those words speak to my passion for having non-judgmental care for people as I
assist them as they process, sort through, and organize their “spaces” in an effort of them
achieve optimal mental health and wellness. My approach most aligns with the
evidence-based therapies of person-centered, solution-focused, and motivational
interviewing. Utilizing these strategies allows the client to be the driver of their sessions,
which leads to them gaining understanding, and finding and implementing solutions.   
I was born and raised in Chicago. Being a native of the Chicagoland area has given me
the opportunity to interact with a wide range of people. I also have traveled extensively
which I believe adds to my approaches when interacting with diverse populations. I
enjoy being around a dynamic of people. When not working or doing schoolwork I enjoy
Zumba, yoga, spending time with family and friends, listening to music, traveling, and
playing with my two fur babies.

I am elated to have been selected for an Internship at Ashe’ Counseling & Coaching.
My first goals for my time at Ashe’ is to provide a welcoming safe space where clients
can feel free to openly discuss what ponders them and to be an effective helpful
resource in their journey.
