A Bit About Me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor at Ashe’ Counseling and Coaching. In addition to my LPC License, I am a Certified Trauma professional and I hold a Domestic Violence Training Certificate. I am often described as a good listener, loyal, dependable, and an understanding individual.

My intention for therapy is to create a safe space for clients while working collaboratively with empathy, trust, honesty, and respect. Creating a space where clients can begin to understand themselves better, the issues and struggles they are facing, while helping clients start to experience life in a new way. My therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Client Centered Therapy. My areas of specialty are:  individuals, families and couples who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), crisis and life adjustments. My professional experience includes working with youth within the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) with trauma, play therapy, domestic violence, supportive housing, couples and family therapy, crisis intervention, and managed care organizations (MCO). I have provided therapeutic services to diverse populations that encompass children, adolescents and adults.

I was born In Chicago but raised in the South Suburbs. I received a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology from Western Illinois University, a Bachelors of Art in Clinical Psychology from St. Xavier University and a Masters of Art in Clinical Professional Psychology with a concentration in Child and Family Studies from Roosevelt University.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my husband and our daughter. I make an effort to find new experiences around the city of Chicago to enjoy with my family. For self-care, I enjoy traveling to new destinations and I have plans to travel around the world.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I became a counselor after being a hairstylist for 18 years. Often times my hair styling clients would feel comfortable sitting in my styling chair and sharing their most vulnerable thoughts, feelings and secrets. I would often joke that they were getting two services for the price of one. After being told multiple times that I was an easy and non judgmental person to talk with, I was motivated to pursue psychology and become a therapist. Becoming a therapist was natural for me because it was something that I had been unintentionally practicing informally for many years.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am passionate about helping clients who are struggling to believe therapy will benefit them. I believe in therapy because of its ability to create change and develop self-awareness. With Structured guidance clients can create a shared sense of ownership in therapy.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish all clients knew that they are not alone in the journey of life. Everyone has experienced an uncomfortable situation that has affected them but everyone's story is different. Being different is a strength and means you are special and unique in your own way.

Why did you choose to practice at Ashe Counseling & Coaching LLC

I chose to practice at Ashe Counseling & Coaching after researching the practice's thorough website and admiring the professionalism shown by Mandisa and Aneisha during my interview. I was inspired that Ashe was owned and operated by an African American women who was focused on the growth and connectivity with her team. I knew that this practice is where I could learn and become a better clinician which would later be part of my career journey.

My top 3 feel good songs

Knowing that the decisions I make can potentially inspire my daughter inspires me more to be the best person I can be overall.
