As Thanksgiving quickly approaching, this would be a great time to consider the mental health benefits of gratitude. Gratitude is recognition for what good an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible. The process of gratitude helps people connect to something larger than themselves as individuals ,whether to other people, nature, or a higher power. Gratitude highly connected with greater happiness. Gratitude facilitate feelings of positive emotions, improve health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.
How to cultivate gratitude.
Here are some ideas on how incorporate gratitude in your life
1. Recap your day.
Before you go to bed, take mental snapshot of your day and replay the events or things that you are grateful for. Think of it like a highlight reel of your day.
2. Send thank you notes.
You can get a box of thank you cards from my favorite store, Marshall's/TJ Maxx and each week send a special note to someone whom you appreciate . Don't forget to include yourself as well.
3. Keep a Gratitude Journal
There is power in writing stuff down. Keeping a journal of what you appreciate will not improve your overall well being, but it gives you something to reflect on during times of sadness
4. Do a Social Media Challenge
I found this to be particularly helpful. Since more than likely you are on social media anyway, why not use it to spread
and increase your happiness, For an entire month, post a pic of something you are grateful for.
Please comment and share how cultivating gratitude as improve your well being.
