A Bit About Me
I am a licensed clinician at Ashe Counseling and Coaching Services. I am described as an open, light-hearted; caring individual who is goal oriented and determined. I enjoy connecting with others and helping clients find the light within themselves. I carry a client focused approach in my work, supporting clients in finding or creating their voice and providing unbiased support as they navigate the stages of life. My intention in therapy is to provide a comfortable environment where individuals feel free to express themselves and process their emotions while exploring skills and strategies cultivated towards the personal need of the client. Therefore, my approach to working with clients incorporates the utilization of evidence- based therapies inclusive of Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Art/Movement Therapy, and Meditation. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process and guides clients to increase self-awareness, gain new perspectives, decrease symptoms, and increase personal strengths to have a more meaningful life experience. I am a Chicago native but have been given opportunities to provide therapy in places like Washington DC and Iowa. I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Southern Illinois University and completed my Masters in Counseling Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. My passion is civil service and advocating for the importance of mental health in communities of color and diverse communities who can become over-looked in the psychology field. I have had the honor of cultivating with individuals from diverse communities including LGBTQ, homelessness, child welfare, crisis intervention, disabled, and low-income. I strive to support the voices of the unheard and provide an inclusive space for everyone I meet. Outside of work, I love to read and spend quality time with my 5 year old daughter. I am always on the hunt for the next great book or podcast to connect with. My hobbies include music, dance, and mindfulness meditation. I also enjoy bike riding, swimming, and spending time with friends and family. On any given day, you can catch me burning candles reading a good book!
Why did you decide to become a social worker?
I became a counselor to create more spaces in the world that were filled with compassion, patience, and understanding. At a young age I loved the feeling of communing with others and growing from the conversations and experiences others shared. As I got older I knew mental health was prevalent in the communities I represent (African American, woman, middle class, ect.) however there was an overwhelming lack of resources, support, and devotion to these issues. That's when I knew I had to be apart of the change. I decided to go into counseling to advocate, collaborate, and contribute to the work of creating a better world for the communities I love.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am deeply honored by any and all life forces that come into my space for support and healing. I genuinely have a love for people and I'm always excited to bare witness to the growth and light in others. I do believe any client who is prepared to put in the work, be challenged to grow, and ready to gain skills to approach life get the most out of the space I cultivate.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
They all have the power to overcome, transcend, and heal. We just need to be empowered and equipped enough to tap into that innate power!
