I am a trilingual (Korean, English, Mandarin) and bicultural clinical therapy intern at Ashe Counseling and Coaching. My friends and chosen family describe me as empathetic, supportive, funny, and (at times) exceedingly honest – all of which are traits I incorporate into my therapeutic practice.
Everyone enters therapy with different goals. Whether a client is very clear on what they want to accomplish or still figuring things out, I empower them to make choices at their own pace. I believe every person is the expert of their own experiences, and I value collaborating with my clients in creating a safe space that encourages vulnerability and self-reflection.
My goal as a therapist is to support my clients in identifying and reclaiming their power in the face of systemic oppression and various circumstances. I walk with clients throughout their journey while also holding them accountable for their personal growth by asking mindful and thought-provoking questions. My therapeutic approach is largely inspired by dialectical behavioral therapy, internal family systems, and the strengths perspective, and these influences are reflected in my practice.
I am a queer, genderqueer, neurodivergent immigrant from a small town in Ohio. I grew up experiencing firsthand the lack of identity-affirming mental health resources accessible to multiply oppressed individuals, particularly queer and trans people of color. My lived experiences drive my passion for changing this narrative by facilitating spaces of self-reflection, accountability, and growth. I am a firm believer in the power of individual transformations and actively work to build communities of abundance and movements that demand equity and change.
I am currently a 2nd year Master of Social Work Student at the University of Illinois Chicago. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and chosen family by playing board games, completing jigsaw or crossword puzzles, and going to local stand-up comedy shows. I also love to embroider, read queer graphic novels, and cook comfort foods to share with friends.
