A Bit About Me
Hello! I am currently in my final year at Adler University, where I am obtaining my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am originally from Richmond, VA where I received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I have been fortunate enough to work in an array of clinical settings that include inpatient, outpatient, and community mental health. I seek diverse populations and have worked with a range of ages from adolescents to older adults. I am always pursuing new perspectives and integrate a variety of therapeutic modalities including ACT, Adlerian, family systems (IFS), mindfulness-based (MBCT), narrative, and trauma focused care.
At its core my counseling style is based on authenticity. I hope to create a therapeutic space that not only feels authentic to the client, but also encourages you to show up as your most authentic self. I operate from a client-centered lens which means that you are the expert. I believe my role is to assist in creating a stable sense of self and to help clients feel empowered to take on whatever challenges their life path may bring.
I have been described by both friends and colleagues as energetic, enthusiastic, and passionate. I often incorporate humor and genuine curiosity into the therapeutic space. Outside of the office, I love being in nature and use my two dogs as an excuse to go for long walks by the lake. Recently, I have been teaching myself how to draw and use yoga/the gym as mental and physical outlets.
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
My interest in mental health initially developed from a desire to understand myself and those around me. I have found that through a better understanding of self we are then able to better understand others, and more importantly, allow others to understand ourselves.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
The clients I most enjoy working with are those at a crossroads or life transition (marriage, divorce, new parents, starting grad school, etc.). I find these moments have us most often questioning who we are, or what we want to do. My inquisitive nature is built for helping people explore and integrate different parts of themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Every individual is unique and there is no one approach that works for everyone. There are many external and systemic factors that impact us all and the choices we make. As such, I prioritize incorporating social justice informed care, cultural considerations, and practice through a harm reduction lens.
Why did you choose to practice at Ashe Counseling & Coaching LLC
I chose Ashe CC as my intern site because they “walk the walk” so to say. I highly value diversity, cultural competence, and a pursuit of equity which I think Ashe emulates in their business practices. One of the things that I most appreciate is how insurance friendly the practice is and that we can provide services on a sliding scale.
