A Bit About Me

Hey there! My name is Daniel, and I am currently pursuing my Master of Social Work at the University of Chicago. I was born in China, grew up in Canada, and earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from New York University. I am bilingual in English and Chinese (Mandarin), and my multicultural background has provided me with a unique perspective that I bring into my work, allowing me to connect deeply with individuals from diverse backgrounds, especially within the Asian community.

I believe that effective therapy is a dynamic and evolving process. While my foundational training is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I am also exploring and integrating elements from psychodynamic therapy. I view therapy as a collaborative journey where we work together to explore and overcome challenges. I see my role as a companion and guide, walking alongside you as we navigate your path to healing and growth. My goal is to create a partnership where your voice is heard, and your experiences are respected, empowering you to find the solutions that resonate best with your unique circumstances.

When I am not working, you can find me playing video games, watching anime, and playing with my dog Noodle!

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

Growing up between cultures, I witnessed firsthand the challenges of feeling unheard and misunderstood. I became a counselor to create a space where everyone, especially those from marginalized communities, can express themselves freely and be truly seen.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I’m excited to work with clients from all backgrounds, especially those from Asian and immigrant communities who face unique cultural challenges. I’m passionate about supporting individuals who are ready for change and growth but need a supportive space to begin their journey. My goal is to help them find the strength to heal and thrive.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

One thing I wish all clients knew is that progress in therapy isn’t always linear, and that’s okay. Healing and growth often involve setbacks, pauses, and unexpected turns, but every step, no matter how small, is part of the journey. I want my clients to know that it’s important to be patient and gentle with themselves, trusting that change takes time and that their efforts are valuable, even when the path feels challenging.

Why did you choose to practice at Ashe Counseling & Coaching LLC

I am drawn to Ashé Counseling & Coaching LLC because of its unwavering dedication to making mental health care accessible to everyone, especially those who have been underserved or overlooked. The organization's emphasis on culturally responsive and holistic care resonates deeply with my belief in the importance of honoring each client's unique background and experiences. Joining a team that prioritizes inclusivity and genuinely cares about empowering individuals on their healing journey felt like a natural fit for me. I'm excited to contribute to a place where clients feel truly valued and supported.
