I am a therapist at Ashe Counseling and Coaching and a Social Work professor. I absolutely believe that one can experience transformation in various spaces- from a therapist’s office to a classroom, to a dance floor, thus I aim to help individuals in different settings that offer safety and support. With that said, I am currently studying to be a dance movement therapist who uses the arts to promote one’s personal sense of joy and transformation. I am a compassionate listener that my clients would describe as witty, patient and committed to building a safe space that is attuned to one’s background experiences and unique need for support and motivation.
Many of my clients are professionals, students and/or working full-time, aiming to find “their center” while navigating relationships, family and professional needs as well as various life transitions. Considering this, I utilize a relational- cultural perspective, which understands our need to be embedded in meaningful relationships, while incorporating solution-focused and feminist therapeutic techniques.
My ideal client, has an active life. In my sessions, I assist them in developing strategies that use their strengths and resources to achieve their goals and tap into their inner sense of power and agency. This process is facilitated by my empathetic style of psychotherapy which brings in my orientation towards being intentional in creating the lives we desire.
I am from New York City, although I have spent about a decade of my adult life living and creating community in Chicago. I attended the University of Chicago for both my Masters and Doctorate in Social Work. I have diverse counseling/psycho-educational experiences in drug treatment facilities, in early education settings and also in college spaces. I am a professor who educates social workers about the ways to best assist individuals with challenges stemming from incarceration and larger societal oppression.
On a personal note, I enjoy dancing, taking Zumba fitness classes, exploring Chicago with friends and visiting my family in New York City . I am also a certified yoga instructor who is hoping to combine that understanding with my dance therapist pursuits. I believe we are never done learning, growing and exploring, come explore with me
